You can make a key fob any width you like but generally they are 1" to 1.25" wide.
Approximately 1” of the stitching on each end of the key fob will be covered. Keep this in mind when designing your key fob pattern to avoid having any important parts of your pattern covered.
The length varies, depending on personal preference. Read our guidance for each profile:
Flat key fobs are usually around 4" to 6", although we've finished shorter ones (guys often want really short ones that will fit in their front pocket easily) and longer ones too.
The loop key fobs are normally 9" to 10" of stitched canvas (including the plain stitching at each end) and once looped and finished are about 4" to 5". Again, we've finished them a little shorter than that and have also done some that are long enough that the loop will fit over a hand. Think about where you want to carry the key fob (pocket, purse or hand) and this will give you an idea of what size you would need.
Our finishing form will ask if your canvas has been given a binding stitch or if you've included extra rows. We can accommodate either choice.
Some needlepointers prefer to apply their own binding stitch to their piece before submitting for finishing.
If you have not applied a binding stitch on the top and bottom of your canvas, we apply a fold finish. Please be sure that there are 2 extra stitched rows on the top and the bottom, and that neither is the outside edge of the canvas. We will fold under these two rows so that your belt has a nice finished edge with no unstitched canvas showing.
Without these extra rows, we have to fold into the canvas design, hiding your hard work, so work the extra rows into your stitching before submitting for finishing.
The flat, square key fobs MUST have a binding stitch all the way around the edge of the design or we cannot finish them.
